As an electrician you could be expected to work on the maintenance, installation and repair of electrical services. This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge and practical services to carry out this work safely and correctly.

Depending on the pathway taken, key units include:

  • The preparation and installation of wiring systems
  • Inspection testing and certification of electrical systems
  • Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults
  • Electrical principles associated with electrical equipment and systems
  • Practices and procedures in the work environment

Who is this course for?

This Apprenticeship is available at Advanced level and allows you to study towards a recognised qualification whilst in paid employment. Applicants to this Apprenticeship could be a mix of age and experience. As a guide, applicants may come from a range of routes including: work or work experience training and/or experience which could include a portfolio showing what you have done, Intermediate Apprenticeship, vocational or academic qualification(s).

What other experience will I gain?

This Apprenticeship provides the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified electrician. The programme is primarily aimed at those who are working in the electrical contracting industry or have been offered an Apprenticeship in electrical installation or maintenance. Successful candidates with the qualifications necessary to join the JIB Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (formerly the JIB UK Register of Electricians).

Where will this lead?

Successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship will provide the qualifications required to work as an electrician and candidates will have the opportunity to add additional qualifications in order to gain Approved Electrician Status or move on to Electrical Engineering qualifications.
