Level 2 AAT – Foundation Certificate in Accounting
This qualification is suitable for those starting their accounting career. It is also for those who currently work in an entry level finance role but wish to progress further through the development and formal recognition of their skills.
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) offers qualifications set at Level 2, as a common starting point for a career in accounting and finance, providing the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either to employment or to further study.
The course covers five units relating to Bookkeeping Transactions, Bookkeeping Controls, Elements of Costing, Working Effectively in Finance, and Using Accounting Software. For further details refer to the AAT website: http://www.aat.org.uk/.

A student completing this qualification will develop accountancy skills in double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing, as well as an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers.
Students will learn to use accounting software and to develop the professional skills and behaviours needed to contribute effectively in the workplace. Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, IT skills and understanding of the business environment, all of which are included in the qualification.
Where will this lead?
This qualification allows progression to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma which can be used as a route to professional AAT Bookkeeper status (AATQB). The Level 4 Professional Diploma can be used as a route to professional AAT Accountant status (MAAT).
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy (ideally grade C/4 or above at GCSE)
