Learning Unlimited and Gibson Technology Ltd, a Derbyshire-based engineering firm specialising in high performance race engines, have formed a seven-year partnership that has resulted in sustained success for both companies.
Learning Unlimited has provided six apprentices to Gibson since 2013, sourced and recruited specifically to meet the needs of an organisation which is well-known for its high quality service and products, and dedication to excellence.
The latest apprentices to enter the workforce at Gibson Technology are Tom Mackenzie and Hasnain Majeed. Both have key roles within the company, learning complex skills and developing specialist knowledge to support their long term careers. They benefit from having great support in the workplace, particularly from those assigned to be their mentors.
The mentor role is key to the successful development of any apprentice, in any industry. Learning from someone else who has a passion for what they do, as well as high level expertise, is crucial. A good mentor helps build the foundations of an apprentice’s learning, ensuring that training is undertaken in the ‘right way’ and aligns with the ethos of the company. Both apprentices praise their workplace mentors and the opportunities that have been provided to them throughout their apprenticeships. As they have developed their competency, they have taken on more responsibility as they work towards their qualifications.
