Apprenticeships – the key to attracting and retaining talent

Apprenticeships are key to both attracting young talent as well as retaining and developing existing talent, says the recruitment manager of one of the country’s leading independent drinks businesses.

Smashing the misconception that apprenticeships are only for young school leavers, Global Brands Ltd is not only offering people the chance to get on the career ladder but is also giving current employees the chance to develop their professional skills.

“At Global Brands Ltd we are proud to support the upskilling and development of our current talented teams via higher level apprenticeships in leadership and management and in marketing management,” explained Jane Houghton, Recruitment and Staff Development Manager at Global Brands. The higher apprenticeships give employees the opportunity to develop the theoretical understanding of management and leadership skills in order to build on the practical experience they have already.

Jane, who is based at the head office within the group’s award-winning hotel, CASA, said: “We also find that supporting people at the beginning of their career journey by bringing in apprentices in business management and accounting has been great for the business. We are never too old to learn new styles of working from our apprentices.”

She added: “We’ve only recently started our journey with Learning Unlimited but we are very impressed by the support of the team there and by their installation within Chesterfield College.  There will, no doubt, be many more collaborations moving forward particularly for further developing our apprenticeship training for our hotels.”
