New Computer-Aided Design (CAD) distance learning courses

Due to popular demand, we are now offering the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) in Manufacturing and Engineering as a distance learning course.

You can choose from the Level 2 or Level 3 course and work flexibly from home at your own pace.

Course content

  • Use a CAD workstation safely
  • Use key components in 2D CAD software
  • Create lines and shapes relative to a co-ordinate system
  • Use text, hatch and simple dimensioning routines
  • Modify existing drawings
  • Output a 2D drawing layout

The CAD courses offer the opportunity to become proficient and technically qualified in computer-aided drawing and can be applied to range of vocational careers, including electrical and mechanical engineering.

Entry requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements, the following qualifications and experience would be highly beneficial:

  • GCSE English grade C/4 or above (you will be required to take written notes and work with course booklets)
  • GCSE mathematics grade C/4 or above (you will be working with dimensions, transitional geometry and more)
  • ICT literacy and confidence using a computer
  • Some drawing experience could be beneficial

To undertake the distance learning course, you must, as a minimum, download the AutoCAD software (educational version), and be in weekly contact with your CAD tutor so we can check your progress.

Beginners will undertake the Level 2 (2D) course, and progress on to Level 3 if they wish to take their skills to a higher level.

Course cost

The course fees are £582+VAT for all students, regardless of age, and includes your examination fee.
