Bramble Lodge’s commitment to training and developing staff hailed as best practice

Bramble Lodge Residential Care Home, near Ilkeston in Derbyshire, has been named as our Employer of the Month for May.  Their commitment to training and developing staff  and the way they work in partnership with Learning Unlimited is exemplary and has benefited the business, the staff and the residents of the care home.

Managers at Bramble Lodge understand the importance of finding appropriate training for staff to ensure high quality of care for their residents. They have embraced apprenticeships and other training programmes, as well as supported staff in a variety of ways.

Claire Parkinson, Work Based Tutor from Learning Unlimited who nominated the organisation for the award told us;

“I have worked with Bramble Lodge for 4 years now and in that time I have seen numerous learners achieve Level 2 and Level 3 Health and Social Care Apprenticeships as well as implementing a new level 4 Adult Care Diploma. I wanted to give some recognition to the team here because their commitment really stands out. The management team are actively involved in contractual progress reviews and welcome the feedback I provide after each tutorial.

“The winning formula is created by the way we work together to design an effective system for the organisation; the way they support the individual needs of all of their apprentices; how they show the value of training by recognising qualifications achieved and by paying staff for any extra time they spend with me as part of their continuing professional development. All of this has a positive impact on the quality of care provided to residents as well as an individual learner’s skills and progression opportunities.”

Sue Cumberland, Manager of Bramble Lodge said:

“Finding a programme of training which works for our staff and allows us to develop care skills in a way that works for our organisation is a balancing act. Working together with Claire we have developed a successful system. Staff feel confident because they know they get the support they need and it works brilliantly that everything is in-house. We know where learners are in their development and we can help them to progress through the stages together.”

David Higham, Commercial Director at Learning Unlimited presented the team at Bramble Lodge with their award at a celebration event with the residents last week. He said:

“We really appreciate what you are doing for learners and how you work in partnerships with us. How you integrate training and apprenticeships into the organisation stands out as best practice and we want to congratulate and thank your for the approach you are taking.”
