Joining forces to change perceptions of apprenticeships

Local teachers and careers advisors from Derbyshire will be joining Learning Unlimited today (13 February) for an event that sets out to change perceptions of apprenticeships.

The free event aims to show that apprenticeships can be a real option for those making career choices after GCSEs and that they are as viable as traditional academic routes with the opportunity to work while training for qualifications up to degree level. The event takes place at Learning Unlimited’s Derby campus on the Pride Park Business Park between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. All those attending will get the chance to talk to the Learning Unlimited team and regional employers about the opportunities available to young people who choose the apprenticeship route.

They will also find out all about the possibilities open to those people interested in a career in the engineering industry and get the chance to take a tour around Learning Unlimited’s campus and see the high-tech facilities and equipment within the engineering workshops. The event will provide information about recent changes made in apprenticeship funding and reforms and the high quality training leading to industry recognised qualifications

James Lund, Business Development Manager at Learning Unlimited, said: “There are many options and opportunities available to young people these days that they’re not always aware of. Many people don’t know enough about apprenticeships and so don’t always consider it as a positive alternative to the traditional academic route.

“We hope that our event will demonstrate that apprenticeships offer many benefits. Apprentices earn a salary, learn job-specific skills and on completion gain a nationally recognised qualification.”

  • The Supporting Student Progression event takes place between 4.30pm and 6.30pm today (Wednesday 13 February) at Learning Unlimited’s office at 15-21 Royal Scot Road, Pride Park, Derby DE24 8AJ.
