Chief Constable of Derbyshire Constabulary, Mick Creedon welcomed 11 new apprentices to the organisation this week. The talented 16-19 year olds will be kick-starting their careers by carrying out business and administration roles in a range of departments supporting the work of the police force from crime support to human resources and finance to forensics.
The new apprentices will be an integral part of the Constabulary giving them chance to learn and earn with the support of colleagues and work based tutors from Learning Unlimited. The apprenticeship programme will last for 13 months giving successful applicants the chance to gain vital skills and a qualification that could lead to a permanent role or an advanced apprenticeship.
Louie Spooner, age 16 from Derby, is a new apprentice in the Human Resources department. He told us: “I decided an apprenticeship was the best way for me to get the qualifications I need after I saw what my older sister faced at university. I want to study without a student loan and get experience at the same time. When you get the chance to do that with an organisation like Derbyshire Constabulary it is a great opportunity.”
Chloe Sims, age 18 from Ripley, who will also be working in Human Resources, said: “I was working part time and doing my A Levels but I realised I preferred working to studying. Someone suggested I do an apprenticeship so I could get the best of both worlds. When I saw the apprenticeship opportunity here I thought it offered everything I was looking for.”
Chief Constable of Derbyshire Constabulary, Mick Creedon met apprentices as part of their induction to explain what joining the workforce of more than 3,000 people would mean and what would be expected of them.
He told them: “I know that you will be given every opportunity to develop and progress with interesting and challenging roles which will give you the experience you need to start your career. We know that apprentices bring a massive benefit to the organisation including bring fresh ideas and new talent which helps us to keep serving the people of Derbyshire. I welcome you to the team and wish you every success. ”
