Derbyshire-based The Martin Group has gained Learning Unlimited’s Employer of the Month award for its dedication to its ongoing apprenticeship programme.
The family-owned company that provides services to the highways, waste recycling and rail industries, earned the title for demonstrating its work to providing its apprentices with opportunities to develop. Presenting the award, Learning Unlimited’s Commercial Director, David Higham, said: “We are delighted to present the Employer of the Month award to The Martin Group. We work with employers nationwide to provide opportunities for apprentices and The Martin Group have worked closely with us to make it a very positive experience for their apprentices.”
Group HR Advisor at HW Martin Group, Gillian Bowron, said: “Each year the company actively recruits apprentices to fill its many diverse roles. This year it has recruited apprentices for IT, accounts, administration and heavy goods vehicle roles.
“The Martin Group values the diversity of all its employees and consider the apprentices as a valuable asset to the ongoing success and progression of the group. The apprenticeship scheme gives them the opportunity to earn, whilst they learn on the job, providing individuals with long term career opportunities. We hope that when our apprentices join us they can grow and develop and learn that the sky really is the limit.”
Shellie Barson, who joined The Martin Group as an apprentice in the administration department in July, said: “I was always aiming to go to university but then had a change of mind and took the opportunity to come here and I’ve never looked back. I’ve already learned so much in such a short time and I’m hoping I’ll be able to stay here and gradually progress and move up in the company.”
