Kingswood offer traineeships and apprenticeships for unemployed young people in South Yorkshire

Outdoor learning specialist, Kingswood, is working with Learning Unlimited to offer up to 100 unemployed people a short course designed to give them the skills they need to start an apprenticeship in outdoor education.  The recruits, who should be passionate about the great outdoors, will get essential work experience and develop key employability skills through a scheme at their centre in Dearne Valley, South Yorkshire.

Successful applicants (aged 18 or over) who complete a one week course are guaranteed an interview for an apprenticeship at the Kingswood centre. Applicants aged under 18 will complete a six month traineeship prior to an interview for an apprenticeship. This exciting opportunity will include a mix of hands on experience working in different areas of the outdoor activity centres, such as raft building, quad biking and archery, alongside classroom-based educational work with young people.

The apprenticeships are residential roles for one year on fixed term contracts (meals optional) in single occupancy rooms.

Kingswood’s apprenticeship scheme is well established and attracts over 700 apprentices every year. Apprentices with the company earn and learn whilst working towards recognised outdoor industry qualifications.

Claire Canu, Recruitment Manager from Kingswood said: “Apprentices are really important to our business and we wouldn’t be able to give our visitors the same quality of experience without them. This programme helps us to make sure young people with a passion for sports and outdoor activities without much work experience have the opportunity to turn a hobby into a career. It gives them the chance to find out what it’s like to work in the industry and develop skills that will make getting an apprenticeship or other jobs so much easier.”
