Nottinghamshire emerges as transport and logistics hub

Nottinghamshire is fast becoming the Transport and Logistics hub for the country as local industry has experienced remarkable growth, whist the rest of the country has failed to follow suit.

According to a report conducted by Invest Ashfield & Mansfield, Nottinghamshire’s Transportation and Logistics industry experienced unrivalled growth of 7.9 per cent between 2012 and 2013 and an impressive growth of 6.63 per cent over the last three years. What makes this data even more remarkable is that the UK suffered 0.54 per cent decline between 2012 and 2013 whilst adjoining counties Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire had a combined decline of 2 per cent during the same time frame.

Mike Robinson, Mansfield District Council’s economic development director, said: “In the last few years we’ve seen major distribution centres move into prime sites such as Castlewood, in Ashfield and Mansfield, and independent companies flourishing. These economic forces are turning Ashfield and Mansfield into Nottinghamshire’s centre for logistics.”

The Transport and Logistics boom in Nottinghamshire is set to continue in the future years as the centralised location is said to have become more attractive to investors due to site shortages further south, a rise in exports and growth in online retail. As more employers move into Nottinghamshire there is expected to be an increase in industry specific job roles, including Warehousing, Chain Supply Manager, Logistic Operations, Automotive and Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
