Working together to shape dream careers

Ten apprentices are gearing up to begin their dream career with Derbyshire Constabulary this September following a recruitment drive carried out in partnership with Learning Unlimited.

The apprenticeship specialist joined forces with the Constabulary to recruit a new cohort of apprentices who will work across different departments at the Derbyshire Constabulary Headquarters in Ripley.

A lengthy recruitment process took place to find the right candidates for the roles and the large number of applications was whittled down to the final 10. The roles involve a variety of clerical and administrative duties and all 10 apprentices will gain vocational training on-site through Learning Unlimited, which will lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Wendy Taylor, at Learning Unlimited, said: “We are glad to work in partnership with Derbyshire Constabulary to recruit and train apprentices. This latest recruitment drive is part of their long commitment to developing their workforce; apprenticeships are an ideal way of developing the skills required by the organisation for the future.”

“We are delighted to be playing a part in recruiting the next generation of employees and look forward to training and supporting the apprentices as they develop into their new roles and progress over the coming years.”

Kirsty Norman, HR Development Manager from Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “Derbyshire Constabulary is pleased to be employing another cohort of 10 business and administration apprenticeships, starting in September. By employing the apprentices as a group provides them with a support network which is invaluable, particularly in the first few months of starting with us and even though they are placed into different departments, all are based at the headquarters site in Ripley.”

“By employing the apprentices as a cohort means that their monthly training sessions can be delivered by Learning Unlimited staff in a group setting which is cost effective and allows the apprentices to get together at least once a month to learn and develop together.”

“This will be the fifth cohort of apprentices employed by the Constabulary and the experience has been extremely positive. The apprentices bring a fresh perspective to the workplace and over the 15 month programme develop into really valuable members of the organisation.”
