New training courses to drive the way forward

A training course has been launched by Learning Unlimited to help electricians get ahead of the competition and learn how to install electric vehicle charging equipment.

The one day and two day courses are designed to help electricians stay at the cutting edge of new technology and will be delivered in partnership with Rolec EV, the largest provider of electric vehicle equipment in the UK. The training will also provide electricians with the opportunity to become an installer at the end of the course.

David Higham, Commercial Director at Learning Unlimited, explained: “Anyone taking part in this course will be gaining valuable skills. There will be a growing demand for people with these skills, particularly when you consider that it is predicted that twice as many electric and hybrid cars will be sold this year than the previous four years combined.”

Training covers the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Code of Practice for electric vehicle charging equipment installation and will lead to a certificate for a national recognised qualification. Those who pass the course will also be able to apply to the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) to become an approved installer.

To be able to attend the course, electricians must be at least 18-years-old and have knowledge of relevant wiring regulations, verification and commissioning.

Initially the one day courses will be held at Chesterfield College on 20 May, 17 June and 12 July but will be expected to be soon rolled out to other Learning Unlimited venues throughout the country.
