Sherwood Electronics named Employer of the Month for April

Sherwood Electronics Ltd, leading supplier and manufacturer of standard and bespoke cable assemblies, based in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire has been named as our Employer of the Month for April.

The company has a track record of embracing apprenticeships and developing staff to fit strategically with the growth of the company. It is this approach which has helped them to expand and develop their business across a wide range of diverse market sectors and one which stood out to the Learning Unlimited Business Development team who nominated them for the award.

The award recognises the way in which the company created an environment where apprentices past and present have developed and progressed into key roles within the company or into further study.

From the outset, they have embraced the apprenticeship services on offer from Learning Unlimited, utilising the recruitment service to find the right apprentice for the job and working with the work-based tutor to ensure quality, progression and success.

The company design and manufacture cable assemblies which will stand up to the most rigorous electrical, mechanical and environmental applications for the Automotive, Military, Aerospace, Rail, Medical, Telecommunications, Industrial Control, Electronics and Networking industries. Quality is key for them and so is making sure their staff have the skills they need to deliver the standards their customers demand.

Apprenticeships help them to develop employees who understand the business, can deliver excellent customer service and who are loyal.

Director of Sherwood Electronics Ltd, Ken Brennan, told us:

“We train people to work in different areas of the business and to go up the levels. If you’ve got the right people you can do that and it’s good for business. We know the value of training and we appreciate what it means to develop people. Apprenticeships and training are a key part of our growth strategy.”

“Working with Learning Unlimited, we have been able to find a very keen and committed apprentice who is the latest recruit to join us. Lewis has already progressed from a level 2 business administration qualification to a level 3, and his attitude is second to none. He is keen and eager to learn about the business and the apprenticeship gives him the perfect opportunity to do that.”

“I really like how we have been able to select modules which will deliver what we need as a business and what will help him further down the line as he develops his career. This is a great fit for him and it works for us too.”

Stef Monks, Senior Work-based Learning Manager at Learning Unlimited said;

“It is clear to see how apprenticeships work so well for Sherwood Electronics and how they make sure they work for their staff too. This is an employer whose ethics and values in supporting staff are exemplary and the culture of the organisation means apprentices can thrive here. I would like to congratulate them and I look forward to working with them more in the future.”
